today there are too many good conversations to just share one...here are some of the highlights from the past few days...
today we had "Jhal muri" at one of our units. it's kind of like the indian version of chex mix...you start with puffed rice, and add different spices and veggies and oil and (I know it doesn't sound like it) but it's really good. we were all excited about having jhal muri today (Sarah bought the puffed rice and everyone else brought a little something to add...)
yesterday i didn't know if i'd be around for the jhal muri. here's a conversation...
J - are you going to eat jhal muri with us tomorrow?
M - i don't know. I'm supposed to go to the other unit tomorrow.
J - well, just go there in the morning, and then you can come here in the afternoon and eat jhal muri with us.
M - i can't do that. someone is coming to help us with the computer tomorrow, and i need to be here when he is here.
J - well, if you don't come here tomorrow i'm going to call you over and over all day long until you come.
Brooke told me about this conversation she had with "shaggy" today:
S - priyanka, you need to laugh more, you know like Moushumi. she laughs all the time, there's always a smile on her face. and when she has tension, she just laughs louder
(which makes me laugh now thinking of him saying it..."when she has tension she just laughs louder"...man, i'm glad that's his impression of the past few months, cause of everyone at SB, he's one of the people who has had to interact with my stress the most!)
this afternoon after lunch one of the ladies was laying down...so i walked up to her and pretended i was going to start wrestling with her (she's a pretty tough lady...someone i'd be sure to lose a wrestling match to).
L - I like rough housing.
M - should i wrestle with you?
L - yeah.
M - I like wrestling too, but i don't want to wrestle with you. you're too strong, you'd win.
(she laughs)
M - i want to wrestle with brooke...cause i could beat her.
...and then we laughed so hard...(and then brooke wanted to know why we were laughing and i had to admit that i just said i could beat her up...)
one of the women who works for us hasn't been in the office much recently. she's been taking care of some extended family and working at home. I've missed her presence a lot. But she calls me. She called me when i was on vacation in Mumbai, just to see how i was doing, and she's called me a couple times since i've been back. and she called me tonight. she wanted to know how our "jhal muri" was this afternoon, if we all had fun. and she wanted to know if i ate dinner...just a little check in. and after i hung up the phone with her i said to brooke, "i don't think she'll ever know how much it means to me that she calls me like that"
