The Fair

"Fairs" are a pretty big deal over here. Not a fair like the county fair in the US...well kind of. there is great street food, games, little shops, toys for the kids.

on Thursday we closed the south sari bari an hour early and went to the fair together. we walked together, looked at the stuff for sale, ate great street food, and had a fun outing with the SB ladies.

oh, i also bought 2 fish for Kyle. he's been living alone - so we decided he needed some friends to keep him company....

Friday we closed the north SB unit early to go to the fair up here. It was so fun to see the ladies all dressed up - and the excitement as we closed early on a friday for a little fun (i mean, seriously, any time you get to leave work early on a friday is pretty much awesome). as we were walking out of the gach one of the ladies joyfully said to someone that she knew, "we're going out" (hmmm, interesting, there's a bengali word that i just can't quite translate the meaning of... essentially, we're going on a field trip.)

we walked to where the fair was supposed to be (it took a half hour...and it was a great walk...strolling down the road with some of the people i love most in the world). The fair wasn't there. fail. it starts saturday. bummer. i was so looking forward to hanging out at the fair with the ladies. eating for street food, looking at the treasures for sale...i was gonna look for a fish bowl for kyle's new roommates. then all the ladies started shouting out ideas for what we should do now...find another fair in another part of town, walk down by the river...it was so fun to just be together.

so we turned around and walked back. joking about how the fair wasn't there - but how we'll always remember the time we walked to the fair together and it wasn't there.

what a great way to spend a Friday evening.
