Psalms are another thing i've been learning recently. it started before i went to the US, and grew incredibly at the staff gathering.
i recently read in a book about the tradition of praying Psalms each day. i've always thought, "well, i'll pray the psalms that express what i'm feeling when i feel them" and can see how i've missed the boat.
what i love about praying/singing the psalms (or songs based on the psalms) is that it allows/forces you to speak truths that you may not feel, that you may not believe...and then the promise/prayer that goes along with that. there is such depth and beauty in declaring truth (especially when i'm not fully convinced i believe it).
Aaron Strumpel led worship - and his stuff is amazing...we sang a lot of the songs on "Chair and Microphone Vol 2" and "Enter the Worship Circle Fourth Circle" and "Vespers 1 &2"...and man is it beautiful. it stretched my heart. put words of truth on my lips...
here's one of my favorite "snippets" from "Centuries"
You will turn your ear to me
You will hear my cry for mercy
You will loosen things unseen
What can man do to me?
You will be my help in trouble
You will be my place of refuge
You will cut these bindings free
What can man to to me?
and for me...every time i sing these words - i believe them a little more...until i really do believe them...and THAT, is why i'm lovin' the psalms these days.
