Today is Flurry Friday. It's one great Friday that rolls around every August.
For the past week my immediate family, and a large portion of my extended family on my Mom's side has been in Grand Haven, MI for a great week of morning exercise walks with the Aunts, breakfast out (my pappa bear takes us all out one at a time), reading, relaxing, laying on the beach, playing in the sand with the cutie pie little kiddos, strolls on the boardwalk in the evenings, games with the cousins and almost nightly trips to the ice cream shop. But friday is special. We return all the pop cans get our deposit back...and get Flurries from the ice cream shop (living large!)....thus the name "Flurry Friday." (This weekly beach week started 8 yrs ago, i think...and its one of the things that i'm most sad to miss during this year overseas).
I haven't actually been at the cottage on friday very many times - but i celebrate Flurry Friday anyway...i've been known to drive 20 minutes to get my own personal flurry. This year i had to improvise. I guess i could have made my own flurry - but that's too much work for a Flurry Friday...plus i think its a direct violation of the spirit of Flurry Friday - which is un-restrained celebration. So, this year to celebrate Flurry Friday i ordered Pizza Hut pizza for lunch...and got a pepsi, and some "American Style" potato chips (they're sour cream and onion...but they actually say "American Style" on the package i wish they'd chosen BBQ to be American Style, but what to do?!). The pizza is sitting like a rock in my stomach...and i'm satisfied!
So here's to Flurry Friday. you should celebrate somehow today....and here's to the Bock Family...love you. maybe I'll celebrate Flurry Friday in person with you next year!

Melissa,
What a fabulous family tradition and one that I'm sure you miss. I've been thinking about you a lot lately and loving to read about your doings. Take care of yourself and go with God.

Melissa: I have been discouraged about maintaining our family's "girls' weekend" because of everyone's busyness. You have made me realize how special they are and have renewed my zeal for planning them! You are an inspiration to me in many ways.
