Ode to the "Island Queen"

not sure why blogger insists on uploaded this picture in this direction (even though it's the other way on my computer...) it's really messing with my "ode"...

over 8 years ago my friend Betsy got married. I helped with wedding stuff...and Betsy gave me "Island Queen" - the perfect wallet, in my opinion.

The Island Queen and I have been on many adventures together over the past 8 years. We've been to Germany, India (a time or two), Thailand (a time or two), Mexico...and lots of adventures in the US. We've been on family vacation, backpacking trips, road-trips. we've been to Lexington to visit the Demlows more times than i can count. we've lived in Spring Arbor. she's always safely tucked in my purse...how could we possibly count our trips to Frosty Boy? Or how many times we've met a friend for coffee? or how many times we've been to the ATM together?

sadly, the trusty Island Queen has seen better days. her sequins are falling off (what!?!?!), her zipper pull fell off and was replaced with a handy scrap of sari at Sari Bari. she's growing holes in her corners. This summer when i was in the states i started looking for a replacement for Island Queen...but nothing was as perfect as she was...today i found, what may be the ideal "replacement" for Island Queen. if only the new wallet had sequins...and said something as fun/random as "Island Queen" well, she'd be perfect.

i'm gonna give her a try...but i'm holding onto Island Queen...just in case it doesn't work out with the new girl.
