in other Kolkata news (since i've been woefully neglectful of the blog recently)...
- its getting hot. its been 100 the past few days (thankfully today we got some rain!)
- Last saturday we sent Sarah off to begin her sabbatical. She has been serving with WMF for 10 years (we also had a great celebration for her...celebrating 10 yrs of service with WMF!). She'll come back to Kolkata at the end of the year.
- We've been hosting lots of visitors. We had a team that was volunteering for 3 1/2 weeks...and they just left...and other friends have come through as well
- Next week my friends Katie and Ollie are coming to visit :) i can't wait. They're friends i met when i lived in Mumbai...and now they're coming to visit Sari Bari...and Kolkata...and its gonna be fantastic!
- last night there was a cat wandering around in our house. We'd been home for a couple hours...and all of a sudden we saw him run down the hall...the door was closed so he couldn't get out...then he ran back down the hall - scared...and then we had to set up an elaborate system to get him out of the bedroom he was hiding in ...and OUT of our flat...
- Last night we had "community night." once a month all the WMF staff gets together for a meal. As i sat around the table looking...sharing a meal with Radha (we got 2 separate dishes and shared them), listening to conversation alternating between Hindi (which i cant understand) and bangla and English, i just couldn't shake the feeling that i was a part of something really, really beautiful. There we were - sitting around the table...coming from very different backgrounds - different cultures...and yet somehow we all fit together. it's a privilege to be a part of this community.

Love your article, Mel. I don't get The Cry here in China, so I really appreciate you passing along your portion. I would have been sad to have missed it!
