today i was walking down the road and a man said "hello" to me (cultural sidenote: its really inappropriate for a man to talk with a woman that he doesn't know).
so he says "Hello" and i don't respond to him, i just keep walking.
then i overhear his friend say to him in Bengali, "she doesn't understand Bengali, that's why she walked away"
i'm not exactly sure how my ability or inability to understand Bangla effects my understanding of the word, "hello" - but man...it made me smile. (also it made me feel accomplished cause i did understand his bangla, but he didn't know that i did!)
