Thanksgiving at BK Paul

So this Thanksgiving i got to join in with traditions that have been around for a few years...and that keep growing too.

i started out my day with Sarah, at her place, eating fresh out of the oven pumpkin bread, drinking coffee and chatting. i loved it when i walked in her house and it was "bake-fest" and her little christmas tree was up, and christmas music was playing.

around 1 some of our friends came over and helped us peel potatoes and apples...and we watched "Elf" while the cooking/baking frenzy continued.

We had a pretty amazing spread...i made some awesome chicken, Sarah made home-made stuffing,we had mashed potatoes and gravey, and green beans and corn. Sheila made sweet-potatoes too. oh man, was it good...and we even ate around the table (usually we eat on the floor around a coffee table...but this was Thanksgiving, so we pulled out all the stops and set up the tables!) at one point, while the meal was coming together, and it was almost time to eat i got so excited i was literally jumping up and down for joy in the kitchen.

So then comes round two...we invited over a bunch more folks for dessert...and it was amazing. Sheila made a "Walnut Pie" (couldn't find Pecans), and apple crisp and Sarah made 2 pumpkin pies, and 2 peanut butter pies...it was amazing.

Kristin (who used to be on staff with WMF here) was in town for a bit, and it was wonderful to have her around :) and in a mix of good news/bad news we found out on Thanksgiving that Beth has malaria...bad news - cause its malaria, and she's quite sick...but good news cause she'd been really sick for a week and we couldn't figure out why (she'd tested negative for Malaria earlier in the week). i just keep replaying the conversation i heard with her mom, "Mom, its good news, i have malaria." i mean, seriously, when do you ever think you're going to hear that?!

i love that thanksgiving can happen anywhere. i love that its much more about the time gathering with friends and sharing a meal than what the meal actually is (although i'm not gonna lie, the "traditional" meal was pretty amazing! and i love that i got to talk with my family for a bit on Thursday...and that i got to skype with my sister and her family yesterday.
