my bangla teacher gave me a list of fun questions. we use them in our conversation class (which leads to all sorts of new vocabulary, and lots of grammar mistakes and mini-lessons). one of the questions was, "if you could be any animal, what would you be, and why?"
so yesterday when i was out at our prevention unit in canning, i decided to ask all the girls that question. i figured it would be a fun conversation that i could have, understand, and involve everyone in. as the morning went on i asked everyone - and we laughed and joked. it was so fun.
i really enjoy the time i get to spend out in Canning - but i feel like building relationships with the girls has been really slow going (since i'm only out there 1 day a month). yesterday felt like a break-through. i'm slowly learning all their names (its really hard to remember names when you only use them once a month), and slowly getting to know them - their unique personalities, their unique beauty.
and just in case you wondered, i said i'd be a butterfly, cause who doesn't love a butterfly?! they're beautiful, and no one is afraid of them...but i'd have poison wings so birds wouldn't eat me. (alternatively, i'd like to be an eagle, cause they're so majestic and soar on the wind and it looks so effortless and like so much fun...and people would really like me for eating mice)
and the girls - well, we had 2 tigers (both said they wouldn't eat people), a bear, a handful of birds, a peacock, 2 girls who said they only want to be people, and one who was so shy she couldn't come up with an answer...so we talked about it together, and decided she should be a dolphin, because they're graceful and beautiful, and swim so fast and beautifully - and they live with their families all their lives.
i can't wait to ask the ladies at the other 2 units the same question...
