Today i was at one of the Sari Bari units for the training time (ladies who are in training spend the first part of their day doing math and literacy training, before they start their sewing training). There is a new group of ladies in training - and they were working on basic math. practicing writing the numbers 1-10 in Bengali, and also recognizing the correlation between a written number, and that number of an object.
this exercise was really difficult for one of the ladies. i tried to explain the exercise to her, but she didn't get it. i tried to do it with her, but she still didn't get it. another of the Sari Bari staff tried to explain it. no luck. i tried again. no luck. it was clear that she was frustrated. she just couldn't get it. so the Sari Bari staff tried again - and then it finally clicked. she got it. she understood...and she finished her worksheet.
when the training time was over i said she did a good job - that it was hard, but she didn't give up. she had to give a lot of attention and concentration and thought - but because of that she was able to finish the worksheet properly.
it was so beautiful to me to see her struggle - and not give up.
so beautiful to watch her learn.
absolutely beautiful!

I feel like I should experience that too, but somehow I don't. maybe they struggle at home but in class I don't usually see them working to understand if they don't get it right away they do something else...
