it was only a matter of time...

i've told you before how dangerous i am with this language. it was proved again the other day. here's the back-story...

sheila and i often talk with the teachers when they don't have classes. some times while they're "resting" we (and by "we" i mean Sheila) ask them questions...but they don't seem to really mind at all.

i've been sick the past 2 weeks (i know...sinus infection dragging on forever...i keep thinking i'm getting better, but its been slow going). the other day i was taking a mini-nap in the sitting room.

when i was done with my nap one of the teachers said to me, "did you notice that when you were napping i didn't disturb you?"

we have learned a verb that means "to disturb, or to spoil" - pronounced "nawshto"

so what i try to say to our teacher is, "The next time Sheila disturbs you, then you should scold her" and i used the verb "nawshto" but when i get to that part of the sentence the teacher gets this horrified look on his face and says, what?! (at which point, since i'm a genius, i realize that i shouldn't have used that verb and my sentence has clearly missed the mark.)

now i know that you don't use the verb "nawshto" for people. it has a very different meaning with people...its more like, "defile, or ruin, to take their innocence" its like irreparably ruining someone.

oops. but now i learned a new verb. its "to bother" gonna have to remember that one...
