i spent the week staying with the language school principal. it was wonderful to get to know her more, and to get to know her family. One of the great discoveries of the stay was a children's Bible (in Bangla).
i've been reading the past couple days, and its really good for my bangla. i've learned some new words, understand grammar in new ways - and in terms of comprehension, it really helps that i know how the story is supposed to go.
what i love, absolutely LOVE about reading the children's Bible is when i am slowly sounding out the words, and suddenly the meaning clicks in my head (i like this in class too - but its even better with the Bible.)
there have been a few times when i've pieced together the meaning of a sentence and feel it so deeply. like in the story of Noah and the Ark when i read, "The people hated one another" and my heart grieved that truth. but then there was the great sentence, "But there was one man who was God's friend." and my heart leaped for joy. oh rejoice...there is one who is God's friend. at the end of the story, when they leave the ark there is a sentence, "Noah's family gave a shout of joy to God." and i think. oh yes, of course - a shout of joy!
its like i'm re-discovering these truths, and in some ways i am...learning these truths in Bangla.

that is SO cool. i like reading different versions of the bible for moments like those... but hadn't thought about a children's bible!
Lem, I feel that when I read/hear in Spanish. It's like cementing that Truth is Truth no matter the language, culture, etc. Keep learning, Friend.
