Merilee and I originally discussed going backpacking this weekend near Lexington - but with my ankle still on the mend...we decided it wasn't the best idea. so i came to visit her in West Virginia for the weekend. Yesterday we went for a hike on the hill behind her house. we were walking along....walking along...and then i saw it...my first black bear in the wild.
i was so excited. i grabbed merilee's arm to get her attention w/o scarring the bear off (so she could see it too - plus i didn't want her doubting my sighting). it was about 75-100 yds in front of us - sauntering across the trail/4 wheeler track. he stopped (i think trying to figure out what we were) then walked off quickly away from us. He wasn't too big. i'd say a "teenage bear."
after he walked off i jumped up and down like a school girl i was so excited - finally...i saw a bear. i saw a bear. yipee. yeah. i've been waiting so long.

yeah, just wait until you become a little mid-day snack for a bear someday
oh, i can just picture you jumping up and down mel. i wish i was there to see THAT....forget the bear :)
