Things I saw/experienced today

Today i saw a man walking whose legs were completely turned inward (his feet) as he walked. I'm assuming from polio.

Today i talked with a sweet little lady. She was asking for money. I asked where her family was. She said she didn't have family to take care of her. I told her i wouldn't give money, but i had some food if she wanted it. She was really thankful for what i gave her. She spoke very nice English. She was kind and gracious. She tried to help me find the address i was looking for.

Today i saw a lady crossing the railroad track, and pulling herself back up onto the platform. It was hard for her to get up onto the platform, and i wondered what would happen to her next time she crossed the tracks - if she'd always be able to "beat" an incoming train.

Today a little girl, 2-3 yrs old was begging from me in the train station. I didn't see a guardian of any sort at first. I didn't give to her - but couldn't just leave her. I was concerned for her safety. After she thought i'd gone i stayed and watched to see if she had someone to watch out for her...she was so vulnerable. Eventually i saw her mom. I stopped and talked with her. She said her husband was dead. I gave them some food, and told them i'd see them later - i don't know if i will or not - but i hope i do.

Today i saw a boy - he's in his teens. He can't walk at all. He moves around on his hands and knees - crawling kind of. I see him almost every week down by the ocean. I always smile at him - but feel a little helpless to know how to help him beyond that.

Today i saw 2 of my friends down by the ocean flying a kite. They were having a really good time - and it was fun to watch them.

May God bless you with discomfort
At easy answers, half-truths, and superficial relationships
So that you may live deep within your heart.

May God bless you with anger
At injustice, oppression, and exploitation of people,
So that you may work for justice, freedom and peace.

May God bless you with tears
To shed for those who suffer pain, rejection, hunger and war,
So that you may reach out your hand to comfort them and
To turn their pain into joy.

And may God bless you with enough foolishness
To believe that you can make a difference in the world,
So that you can do what others claim cannot be done
To bring justice and kindness to all our children and the poor.
