i've been meaning to write this blog for awhile...i just never have. but the other day one of my friends from kolkata emailed me, and inspired me (again).
One of the most fun things about Kolkata are all the volunteers (who serve at Mamma T homes). We met such incredible people from all over the world. Different people, with different faith systems, there for different reasons, and for different lengths of time, making this beautiful patchwork of people...so let me tell you (just a bit) about a few of my friends...
I met a guy who helped film Napoleon Dyamite...Tyler. he was only there for a couple days.
My friend "Sam" is from S. Korea. She was there for 3 months...and we LOVED hanging out with her...she's one of the most smile-y and outgoing people i know. it was just good to be near her!
James - also from S. Korea. He's planning on staying in kolkata long term. He used to work for Johnson and Johnson...and is responding to God's call on his life. James can make anyone feel comfortable...is fun to be with...and incredibly generous.
Paulina is a flight attendant from Chile. she was there for a month - she took her vacation. fun to be with...
Ajay is from london...he's traveling india for a year...and was in k-town for a few months (i don't know how many, cuase he stayed longer after i left). We loved hanging out with Ajay...just a cool guy...kind...and fun...makes nayone feel welcome!
Christian is our Aussie buddy. he started catholic seminary when he returned to the land down under. he also loves to surf...which jsut cracked me up...not my typical idea of a catholic priest!
There are lots of others...just wanted to give you a taste.
people would ask how long i was going to be in k-town...and i'd always say, "just 4 months." some people would comment that that was a long time - and i jsut say its all relative. there are some volunteers who have been there for a year, one guy has been there for 3...
the volunteer community is a great group...i loved getting to know them. its a crazy group of people!
