Chicago

i was in chicago last week. it was a quick trip - but tons of fun, and infomative...well worth my time, even though it's always tough for my compassionate hear to be in cities.

i've always considered myself a "country mouse." i love the color green. i love the space. i love the silence. i love the leisurely pace of life. i NEVER thought that i'd live in a city...and yet all of a sudden i find the desire to live in a city growing in my heart.

it was interesting being in chicago after living in kolkata. the times i was out on the street in chi-town weren't that busy, but even so, i just looked around at the lack of crowds and thought, "this is nothing." and i think in general the city was less intimidating. always before cities intimidated me...how do you get around? how do you know where to do? where am i? ect ect ect...but not this time, that's not what i thought at all (granted that could be cause i didn't do any of the driving and we have a handy GPS thing, but i don't think so!). This time when i was in Chicago i just thought, "i could do this. i could live here. i could figure out the buses (they actually have defined schedules, and i bet you could even track down a map...i still don't know how people know which bus to get on in Kolkata!) i could figure out the subway, i could walk places, there are even cross-walks and little lights that tell you when it's safe to cross the street!...i could totally live here...and i think i'd like it!"

so, who knows...maybe this "country mouse" will move to the city yet!
