some things i've noticed...

there are some things i've noticed since being back in America...

  • In the Chicago Airport by the people mover, there are arrows on the ground to tell you where to stand if you're going in, or coming out of the train. It was so funny/useless seeming to me...after all the times cramming in and out of the metro, where no such order would ever exist...
  • There are green spaces - wide open spaces.
  • when you drive, you go for long distances without stopping.
  • There are no horns.
  • Girls have writing on their butts (of their pants)
  • Its okay to wear shorts.
  • i drink the water out of the tap.
  • my family keeps talking about how hot it is/has been this week (its been in the 90s, i guess) - but i'm not hot at all...and i sure wouldn't say its humid by any stretch of the imagination
  • i like a good cup of coffee in the morning...still...probably always :)
  • Now i drive everywhere instead of walking....there's no metro, no taxis, no buses...
  • brushing my teeth in a sink

i just went to the grocery store with my mom - and got a bit annoyed when the automatic doors were on the "wrong sides." my mom wasn't understanding my frustration...and then i realized that i was the one that was mixed up. The in door and out door were in the right places...i was the one that was mixed up. i'm used to Kolkata traffic flow patterns, which are opposite of ours. At least i haven't driven on the wrong side of the road yet.

i've been staying at my parents' house this week. Today i went to my trailer - to pick up my mail from the past 4 months - and to pick of some clothes other than what i've been wearing in K-town...it was weird to be in my house. It just felt weird...maybe like looking into the past a little...i can't explain it well...maybe its that i've changed so much - and my house is exactly how i left it 4 months ago (except the snow has melted).

i also realized that i have a lot of stuff. i just kinda stared at my closet for awhile...leafing through all the shirts. And looked at my bookshelves. And my piles. i have a lot of junk. i guess i can add "cleaning out my house" to my list of things to do while i figure out what to do with my life... :)
