Kolkata at last :)

After 43 hours of travel...i am safe in Kolkata. i arrived yesterday around 4pm.

i missed my plane in france (the connection was just to tight), but they had an airport person at the plane to let me know, so i didn't have to run like a psycho trying to catch a plane that i was never gonna make! So, they rerouted me again. i flew to Bangkok, and then to Kolkata. It was a little extra fly time, but it worked out well. that way i wasn't "overnight" in any airport, and my long layover was in Paris (9 hours), which was fine with me...cuase i just felt a little safer there.

i don't think i really knew what to expect. but so far, i'm adjusting well. i'm still quite tired, but thats to be expected at this point. In some ways it still doesn't seem real that i'm here. almost as if i'm observing myself here instead of really being here. does that make any sense?

I'm staying with Beth, Sarah, and Kristen (the full time WMF staff) until next saturday when Karli arrives. the guys have been there too, but their moving in with their family tomorrow.

today we went to orientation at the "mother house" and Wednesday we'll begin serving. Kaligat (the home for the dying) was full, so we're serving at Prem Don, which is quite similar to Kaligat, only the patients require long term care. In March we should be able to "transfer" to Kaligat.

We'll also be working at "Sari Bari" which is a WMF ministry. Its a business that employs women from the Red light district and ministers to them.

we start language study on Thursday, and will have lessons twice a week at least for the first month and a half. after that, depending on our progress we may cut back to once a week.

there's much to say...and not a ton of time now.

I'll be sure to share more details as i know them :)

MEL!
9 Hours in Paris! Did you go outside the airport? I got a six hour layover there next month, that is why I am asking.
Post pics soon!
Prayed for you this morning...Dwell in the presence of our LORD!

Glad to hear you arrived fine, Mel, and I'm glad the layover was in Paris and not Kolcotta at night! I know exactly what you mean about observing yourself. Your mind will catch up with your body soon and then you'll feel together again! Give it a day or two! We are praying for you!
Blessings,
Dan and Diane Kurtz

Yay! You made it! The adventure continues...
Thanks again for letting me borrow your movie. We watched it last night and had a brief but good book discussion.
Know that you are loved and prayed for dear, dear friend!
