Weekend musings...

Life here in Kolkata continues to move at break-neck speed...

this week brooke was in Thailand (taking a visa break) - leaving me home alone for the week...it was nice...it's also crazy how many night's i've been alone in that flat recently (what used to be a near impossibility has become the new norm...)

i stayed the night Saturday with Dan and Mai...and i'm chillin' in their living room this Sunday morning/afternoon...good time with good friends.

last week i worked more on the new payday system (using it fully this month...and it really is magic...but it also has quite a few kinks i'm still working out...which was expected) - will keep sorting it out...and it should be (needs to be) ready to rock for Oct payday...

With all that's going on at SB i haven't gotten to spend much time with the ladies...so i went to SB yesterday morning just to hang out (we're open Saturdays through Oct for those who want to come and "make up" some of the work they'll miss during the big holiday coming up). I sewed patches on my blanket (that i've been sewing for a year)...the end is in sight. I want to have it done by the time i leave for the States...i think i'm gonna make it!

I leave for the States in 18 sleeps...can't believe that. lots to do between now and then...and i can't wait :) (okay, but also, with all i need to do between now and then i also haven't thought about it all too much...)

I went to my friend Jane and Steve's house yesterday afternoon. A great way to spend the afternoon. Jane was making chicken curry for dinner, so i decided to go with Steve to get the chicken from the local market (translation: the chicken is alive when you get there...). i made it a goal for the year to figure out how to buy chicken at the local market. i figured i could do it...but it was intimidating cause i'd never done it...and didn't fully know what to expect. so a big thanks to Steve for helping me 1 step closer to my goal for the year. now i just have to go do it someday on my own. As we were walking back from the market Steve asked what it would take for me to take that last step of buying my own chicken...i said, "probably Dec 31"

here's to a slow Sunday...where i will refuse to think about the long list of things that are waiting to be tomorrow...

Can't wait to see you soon Melissa! One hint on the chicken - Steve C. received one in Zambia this summer. He put it in a backpack and it seemed to stay pretty calm. :) Maybe you could come to Cedar Bend with me and get some practice plucking the feathers? Love you. amt
