Today i saw 2 business names that were just awesome. one is a restaurant called, "Foody's" awesome. the other was a mobile phone store named, "Fatso" - who names any store "Fatso" much less a mobile phone store?! on the other hand, i suppose its a good thing its not a restaurant.
i saw an auto rickshaw that said, "Road Romeo" on the back. for some reason that cracked me up. i do have to say its a much better phrase to put on a vehicle than, "U die Emediately" (yes...i've seen that one too!) - doesn't exactly inspire confidence, or make me want to get in that rickshaw!
Sheila comes back today. YEAH YEAH YEAH. so excited to see that girl again :)
Yesterday the electricians came. we have a habit of waiting until we have a long long list of things that need to be fixed before we call them in. doesn't seem worth it to call for one broken light. so we wait til there's a long list...which i'm not convinced is great plan either. so yesterday they came. Sheila's fan was acting up and i wanted to get it fixed for her before she comes back to town. Beth's fan has been dying a slow death for the past 8 months, our doorbell hasn't worked in a few months, our kitchen is down to one very sad light. when you cook you have to move the dish to the one part of the kitchen that gets good light to see if its done. my fan's speed adjuster doesn't work (and now that its cooling down a bit, i prefer to have more fan options than "wind-tunnel" and off. so they came. they were here for about an hour. they checked all the lights, took the fans, doorbell, my fan regulator and left...and didn't come back. i waited all afternoon for them to come back, and finally had to call and tell them i had a meeting to go to.
nothing. NOTHING. got fixed yesterday. frustrating (also its frustrating that i can't understand the head electrician's bangla to save my life). anyway, they're back. we have a new doorbell (with a very loud, high-pitched and fancy sound, lights in the kitchen (and other various places where we didn't before) both fans re-installed, some hooks mounted in my room...they say it will all be done today. YEAH!
Beth and i went to check the mail today. (we get our mail at the Mother House - so we don't check it all to often, but we were in the neighborhood, and she was expecting a package). i had a few pieces of mail waiting for me too. man, it was great. my friend Rudy is getting married next week. a few months ago she sent out and email asking for mailing addresses. at first i didn't respond. it was one more thing to do, and honestly, i figured it was for wedding invitations (the fact that she recently got engaged was my first clue...nothing gets past me!). plus, i knew i couldn't go. anyway, a few weeks later there was a follow up personal email, asking for my mailing address. so i responded...and today i got a wedding invitation. i still can't go - but man, it made me feel so loved. i love that Rudy sent a wedding invite all the way to India, knowing full well that i can't go. i can't really explain why - but today, that invitation - the invitation to share life, to be a part of what's going on in a friend's life half way around the world...well, it was just what i needed.
