parties...

one of the things i love about Sari Bari is that there are always remnants of a party. if you look in an corner by the ceiling there's a good chance you'll find a bit of a streamer, or check out the white board, you'll probably find some sort of message celebrating someone, or maybe a balloon stuck to a door. we don't decorate for our parties very often, but we do celebrate regularly at Sari Bari.

today was one of those days - "Graduation day" (to celebrate the completion of 6 months of training) and "Mukti Jon-mo-din" (Freedom Birthday) at 2 of our production units.

what a joy to celebrate. to give certificates and small gifts when the ladies complete 6 months of training...a significant milestone on the long road to freedom...

oh man...are there any words the depth and breadth of celebration and joy for celebrating freedom?!?! on the first day that anyone start training at Sari Bari we celebrate their "freedom birthday" we get a cake, we sing happy birthday - it's fantastic. today's Mukti Jonmodin was her 3rd Freedom Birthday. 3 years...and she was beaming...so excited to celebrate...and there was a bit of a cake fight too.

we have these celebrations nearly every month. we share a meal together. there was nothing mundane about it though - there was joy, and celebration, and freedom. i don't think i'll ever get tired of these parties...

individual independence days, sounds like an excellent reason to celebrate
