The Power of Symbols

There are two Filipino sisters who are also in language school. The other day Sheila and I were talking with them, and i noticed that one of them had a simple black ring. a black, wooden band...a ring i recognized immediately.

There are some symbols that we identify with at WMF. one of them is the black wooden ring. Here's a link to why (coincidentally, when i googled, "Black Ring, Brazil" so i'd have a link to post, the WMF link was the first one listed...)

They wear the ring as a symbol of solidarity with the poor as well...and i love, love, love - that while the rings are from Brazil, they're from the Philippines and we're from America, and we met in Bangladesh - the symbol was familiar, and powerful to us all.

yeah, so your link didn't work for me so I just googled it and didn't find a wmf site but your blog showed up.

To clarify how to search for "Black Ring, Brazil", just leave off the quotation marks and Google search it that way.

Love reading your posts Melissa.
