I know, I know...Taco Bell "isn't food" (that's what my college soccer coach always said anyway. he refused to take us there...except for the time we'd gone over-budget the night before...)
I love taco bell. It's become my "road-trip food." I don't eat fast food much. hardly ever when i'm at home - but when i travel, then its a big "treat" for me. One of the reasons i love stopping at Taco Bell is that they have "blue mt dew" i hate the regular stuff - but the blue stuff is great. So often times as i'm driving i intentionally look for a taco bell i can stop at to get my blue mt dew (this does require planning, cause taco bells aren't nearly as common as other fast food joints.
when i was driving to Omaha for my commissioning i stopped at Taco Bell - ordered my combo meal...went to fill up my cup, and NO BLUE MT DEW! its cause it was a "combo taco bell" you know, when its combined with other restaurants. i even called the customer service number on the receipt to lodge my complaint.
Taco Bell - if you're going to corner the market on Blue Mt Dew and make your stores the only place i can get the stuff...then PLEASE, PLEASE have it available. otherwise you're just toying with my emotions.
when i was driving to SC i stopped at taco bell, asked if they had the Blue stuff (i'd learned my lesson) they didn't. again, a combo taco bell. big disappointment.
when i was driving home from WV, i decided to stop and get taco bell and blue mt dew for dinner (i don't ALWAYS get taco bell - sometimes i resist the urge, although with my days in the US limited, i don't say "no" very often to food that i want!). I walk in, look at the pop machine, see they do, in fact, have the blue mt dew (by this point my quest for mt dew has just gotten absurd, and i'm willing to drive to another taco bell if they don't have it). i order. i take my cup to the pop machine. i press the button...and clear fizzy liquid comes out....out of syrup. i think, "man, this stop is going to take longer than i thought, cause they're going to have to change the machine." i wait patiently while the employee waits on a different customer. i show her my cup of clear liquid and say, "your blue mt dew is out." "oh," she replies, "they were supposed to put a sign on that saying we're out." my response in unbelief. i go on to explain that this is the 3rd time in a row that i tried to get the blue mt dew and the 3rd taco bell that was out. they're incredibly sympathetic. they offer to pay for my meal next time i come in. i explain that i live in MI and won't ever be back in their store. they refund the cost of my meal. i ask if i can take my taco bell cup and fill up at a different store. they say yes, and to have the manager call them if there's a problem. way to go taco bell somewhere on the north side of Columbus. you win. you win. i win. we all win.
i get back on the road. stop at the next taco bell. don't bother to ask (by this point, clearly taco bell owes me a blue mt dew) - fill up my cup and get back on the road.
i know, i know...its absurd. the whole story. but finally - i got my blue mt dew. and in case you're wondering, - yes, it was as good as i expected it to be.
