out of practice...

So i've noticed there are some things that i'm out of practice at.

Baking - i just made some bread for my sister. she has an "Amish Friendship Bread" Starter that she just keeps going (she figured out how to alter the directions so she just always has her own starter but doesn't have to give it away all the time...can you still call it friendship bread? i think so...) - anyway, today was the day to make the bread, and my sister is in the hospital with her new bambino...so i rose to the challenge. I dirtied more measuring cups, spoons, knives, and measuring spoons than any one person should while baking one recipe. and i spilled...and i burned my hand on the oven while putting the bread in. despite the mishaps i really enjoyed baking (and some quite time...the girls are in bed, and Alan and Ang are still visiting Tina)...i do hope the bread tastes good enough to help me forget the blister on my hand...

Driving - i know, its a lot like riding a bike, but there have been a few times where i've thought to myself, "wow...you're a little rusty at this driving thing." Today we all went to visit Tina and Elsa. Here's a little conversation after i accidentally accelerated a little too quickly and made the car jerk (in case you didn't know Lydia is 4, and Miriam is 2)

Me: oh, i'm sorry
Lydia: why?
Me: Well, i accidentally started the car too fast
Miriam: Yeah. I almost fell out of my car seat.
Just Teasing.

How do 2 year olds think to say stuff like that?!?!

Things i have never been good at: being the "mom" for a 4 year old and 2 year old. i'm not very good at getting places on time, i tend to forget things (like spare clothes for miri in case she has an accident), i don't seem to remember to ask Miri if she needs to go potty often enough (she's potty training) and i'm really sick up buckling kids into car seats (and Angela has even done that half the time!). how do real moms do it?!

I love your story about what miri said about your driving, it made me laugh out loud in the library of all places - Danae

that's a very witty two year old. the comment was maybe worth the herky-jerky driving? =)
