It would seem that monsoon has come to my dear little city by the sea. It has not rain a single drop in the four months i've been here (yes...4 months already...1/3 of the way through this adventure of living in south asia). I was in the market i thought i felt a rain drop. dis-believing i looked around, and up at the sky, it was dark...and then i saw lightening...and heard the thunder...and then the rain really started to come.
It wasn't a huge rain - like we'd expect from a typical rain storm in the states. But i know its the beginning of a season unlike any i've experienced before (literally!). who knows what monsoon holds. I've heard we get "rain days" from work, when its just too bad to leave your house, and i've heard that everyone gets things delivered to their house (stores deliver food for free). and i hope my little alley doesn't flood too bad.
As i watered the plants on my little balcony i enjoyed the breeze and the storm. part of me wanted to go dance in the rain - but i didn't. And at the same time i can't imagine what monsoon means for people with tarp roofs - or no roofs at all, or who live in low lying areas...
time to dig out my rain boots, and its definitely time to buy an umbrella (and to actually start carrying it!).
PS...my trip to Kolkata was amazing :) more on that another night. For now I'll sum it up by saying it was so good to get away for a little vaction. It was so good to see my friends there (i feel like that's an understatement...). I'm thankful that I got to "get away" - and I'm thankful to be back. It was good to walk into the office this morning and see my friends again. The best kind of vacation...good to go, and good to come home.
