my flat - not my apartment...we say "flat" here :) anyway, my flat is coming together. On saturday i got a little cotton mattress to go on top of my other mattress to make it more comfortable. Stephanie says it feels like a cloud...wonderful! and then on Sunday our water purifier was installed...so now we can stop boiling water all the time...and the never ending battle of always trying to keep our water supply ahead of our usage is over. Then last night i bought a little shelf to put by my bedside (to keep my lamp and books)...and the big purchase...my wardrobe. Hallelujah...i am done living out of my suitcase (and i'm being gracious when i say living out of my suitcase - that makes it seem like there was some level of organization...it was more like piles of clothes in and on and sometimes around my suitcase). my clothes and other belongings are sitting neatly in their places (at least their temporarily neat in their temporary places...i'm still working on arranging). Just that one thing makes such a big difference in helping me feel settled here. This Pretty Pink Palace is starting to feel more and more like home! Next project is to clean the desk that i was given so i can store stuff in the drawers...i still need to have curtains made...and i want to buy a pressure cooker (random i know...but it true). Once we're more settled i'll be sure to post pics for all to see.
as a funny aside, i picked up some clothes from a ironing shop (i don't know what to call it) today. We have a washing machine, but we line dry our clothes, and my tops were really wrinkled, so i had to have them ironed (it cost about 5 cents each). A boy, i'd guess about 11 was helping me and after exchanging the money, and receiving my shirts i said "thank you"...to which he responded with the cutest accent, "No problem, it is our duty." it was hilarious...it just made me smile :)

Good to hear you're settling in day by day and learning the ways of the bus system. I'm sure it is as complicated as Kolkata...
