wednesday's adventure

wednesday karli and i took the wrong bus (bus #227) to prem don. it didn't take us to prem don at all. we said, "park circus station" cause that's a landmark near prem don...well, the opperator must have thought i said "park street" so, he tried to get us to get off the bus, but i knew we weren't at prem don yet so i didn't get off (i didn't know i was on the wrong bus yet!) so a few minutes later he starts motioning again, and a lady helped us to understand that we were on the wrong bus, and we should get off and catch a bus going the opposite direction.

so, we got off the bus, eventually found the direction we should be going (her directions weren't clear, and the bus had moved by the time we got off). while we were trying to figure out the best way to get where we wanted to go, God was at work in Karli's heart and we stopped to visit and eat with a lady on the street and then met another gentleman as well. that took quite a bit of time (so did finding where we should try to catch a bus) and all told it had been about an hour since we'd gotten off the bus.

at this point, we had 2 options...try to get from wherever we were (we didn't really know where we were) to prem don, or take a bus back to the mother house, and go to prem don from there (cause we knew what bus would take us back to the mother house, and we knew what bus to take from there). we decided to take the safe route, even though it may involve some back-tracking, and to flag down a bus #227. we tried to flag one down...it didn't stop, so the next one we did flag down...and it was the exact same bus...and operator that had dropped us off an hour and a half before! of all the buses in Kolkata...what are the odds we'd get on the same one. he must have thought we were pretty strange, or very lost to still be there!

i was so amused i just laughed and laughed. Now, i stand out quite a bit here anyway (the white skin does that) so, when i'm on buses or traveling about, its normal that a lot of people are looking at me...and here i am on a bus laughing hysterically...making it all the worse.

what an adventure the morning turned out to be. we finally got to prem don about 3 hours after we'd left our house! clearly God had different plans for our morning than we did...and i'm thankful that Karli's spirit was sensitive to God at work in her.

Hey Mel!! I loved reading about your recent adventure!! I laughed picturing you!! Your rickshaw experiences are fun too! I graduated highshcool with a Rick Shaw!! Ha! The Lord brings you to my mind every morning as I'm beginning my day and you're ending yours, and every night as I lie in bed thinking of you starting your day! The difference in time is so strange! When I pray for you I picture God walking right with you touching the people you touch. Do you suppose he's hopped in the rickshaw with you! :) Blessings, Lena

Reminds me of several youth trips I've been on and losing students along the way. Keep serving and loving.
