behold...i resurface.
i was in the states until July 1, enjoying time with my family, and connecting with some other folks too. it was an incredible gift to be able to rest.
since arriving back in India 2 weeks ago, life has been moving at break-neck speed.
i went to the 4th of july party put on my the US Consulate
we closed down BK Paul (the flat that has been our community's geographical center for the past 7 years)
Beth moved in with me
Jeff and Anna came for a visit
Jeff, Anna, and I went to the Sundarbans (it. was. amazing.)
my internet stopped working
i didn't sleep well (i was like an over stimulated baby who just couldn't turn my mind off...this was probably a combination of jet-lag and too much transition)
my computer battery completely died...(and was thankfully, relatively easily replaced today)
there's always something in Kolkata. and this particular season has been especially full.
Beth Waterman (my dear, dear friend and co-worker) who has served in Kolkata for 7 years, is transitioning back to the States. she will take a 6 month sabbatical, and then will pursue a Masters in Trauma Counseling. We've been planning this for months. she's been working so hard to hand stuff off well...and we've all been working hard, trying to grieve and celebrate and transition together well. and now the rubber meets the road. Beth leaves on Aug 5. we're in the throws of transition...and celebration...and grieving. i'm thrilled to have Beth as a flat-mate again for awhile.
Beth is hosting a raffle right now...and she has so much amazing stuff (and she'll ship anywhere)...here's the link...check it out. you're almost certain to find something you'd like (no matter where you live!) homemade jam, sari bari products, home decor stuff, jewelry, spice packets and directions for Thai and Indian cooking, Indian dress up clothes for kids, Beth's granola (seriously amazing!), hand made wooden cutting board, art, and I donated a crocheted nativity hand-puppet set.

In addition to this huge transition, my co-worker Brooke decided to head back to America. She is leaving on Thursday.
We/I covet your prayers during this season of transition. There are a lot of new responsibilities for me to work out...in addition to the personal transition of friends/support network shifting.
peace.
