airports

i have a love/hate relationship with airports.

i guess airports are such emotionally charged places...like the good ol' days before 9-11 when you could meet people at the gate (how fun to see them walk through the door), or that horrible long, drawn out good-bye at the gate where you wait until the last possible minute to board the plane! even with the intense security now, airports are still places of hellos and goodbyes...still full of joy at times, and at other times, drenched with sad "see you laters." and don't forget the sometimes never ending layovers, or overnight stays in international airports i've had on the way to the places God has allowed me to adventure! i don't want to know how many hours i've spent on planes or in airports the past 7 months! airports...i love 'em, and i hate 'em!

i flew to colorado recently. i got to fly out of the nice terminal in Detroit (always a bonus). as i walked through the airport i was just in a good mood. i guess cuase i was on my way to this great vacation with mountains and friends. i enjoyed looking around, noticing people...but mostly i loved that there were a few different parties that were Indian. i loved seeing the salwar suits, i loved hearing that distinctive accent, i loved it.

but what i loved most of all was when i walked past the Indian woman wearing a sari, and i made eye-contact, and smiled at her...and i sub-consiously did the Indian sideways head bobble...and she smiled back, and bobbled her head too...i loved that moment!
