A few days ago i looked through all my mail. Mail that collected for 4 months. There was a lot of mail from non-profit organizations. It was a little overwhelming reading all the stories from around the world...and i just thought to myself, "i don't need to read these "newsletters" to know how messed up the world is. i already know how messed up it is." and i think, in general felt overwhelmed by all that was "wrong" and my seeming inability to "fix" anything.
today, i read an issue of "The Cry." It's Word Made Flesh's advocacy journal. its not a newsletter. It's unlike any other publication i've ever read. There are 9 "Lifestyle celebrations" at the core of Word Made Flesh (Intimacy, Obedience, Humility, Community, Service, Simplicity, Submission, Brokenness, Suffering.). Each issue of "The Cry" focuses on one of those values. i read the whole thing - cover to cover (i never do that with magazines...). And i was challenged, and encouraged. it was so good.
i know the world is broken. but i also know God is at work. I know that His people are advancing His kingdom. I know there are windows of hope the world around. the world may be messed up - but there is also hope. and i was reminded of those thing when as i read "The Cry."
so...since i loved reading "The Cry" so much - i thought i'd let you all know how to get in on the action...its a quarterly publication. It's free, but they do "suggest a tax-deductible donation of $10.00/year to help cover our costs." To get a subscription of your own, call 1.800.279.4543 or email info@wordmadeflesh.com
you can read back issues at www.wordmadeflesh.org/learn/the_cry-archive.html
And...let me just say that i love WMF...and the more i know about the organization, the more i like it...i love their values, i love their character, i love the way they work. i love their staff (at least everyone i've met...and from what i've read about others in the cry...they're pretty amazing too!) i definitely feel privileged to have been a part of WMF and their work the past few months.
