general updates

today Karli and i were with Rozi, and she told us that she's starting school. i don't know all the details, cause we can only get so far around the language barrier, but she will register tomorrow, and on Monday she'll start. She'll be learning Bengali and English. I'm so excited for Rozi - and for the opportunities that her learning will open up for her. We're trying to work out a day to take the Katun girls out for a little adventure...maybe it will work this weekend, or maybe next...

Nasma is the name of the little girl at Prem Don - and she's beautiful. I've spent some time with her the past few times i was there. Today i brought a little magnetic version of "Chutes and Ladders." We played it together, and it was fun. Her dressings have to be changed everyday, and that's horrible and painful for her - but between dressing changes, she seems to be okay! Her smile lights up the room.

yesterday i went to "volunteers day" at the Mother House. Every thursday is a day off for volunteers. and this week they had a prayer/silence service, as well as a time of worship. The time of silence was great. God kept bringing me back to the truth that He is the living God. The living God. I serve the God who is alive! such contrast to the gods of this city...We also watched a movie about mother teresa. it wasn't a new movie, i'd guess made in the 80s (because it had her home in the Brox, and that was started mid 80s, i think). As i watched footage of kolkata, it looks the same today. the cars and buses have changed a little - but the images of need, the people walking on the street, the rickshaws ect...it could have been filmed yesterday. A couple quotes stood out to me, One of the sisters working in the brox said "when we came to new york it was very difficult. Their poverty was much deeper." Can you imagine...deeper poverty than kolkata! Mother teresa would often talk about the need for community and relationships being even stronger than the physical need. and i'll leave you with a thought by Mother Teresa..."You can find Kolkata all over the world if you have eyes to see."
